All Whites defender Winston Reid debuts in Major League Soccer

Football is slowly returning to normality in the United States of America as Major League Soccer – the main football league in the country – season is definitely back. This Friday was a very special one for New Zealand international Winston Reid who made his official debut for Sporting Kansas City.

It is Reid first official match after suffering a serious knee injury in March 2018 during a West Ham’s match against Swansea City. Since them he played only one match for West Ham U23 in November last year.

The 32-year-old central back played the whole match and played an important role in the 2-1 win over Minnesota United. While it was a special night for Reid, it was one night to forget for his countryman Michael Boxall – Minnesota’s captain – who scored an own goal in the second half.

Reid joined Sporting Kansas City in February on loan from West Ham United from England. He also played 25 official matches for New Zealand National Football Team
