Josaia Sela shows his credentials with strong performance against Auckland City

Rewa managed to hold Auckland City to a 2-2 draw in the opening match of the OFC Champions League 2024 held in Tahiti. The Delta Tigers managed to be up by one goal for only two minutes in the second half after two strikes from the 21-year-old striker Josaia Sela.

Sela – that suffered a serious injury in 2020 when he was in only 17-years-old fracturing his tibia in a Battle of Giants match against Ba in an accidental clash against his current teammate Isikeli Sevanaia – bounced back in his career after being around 18 months away from football and is proving to be one of the most intriguing prospects of Fijian football currently.

The striker is still to make his debut for the Bula Boys and only appeared for the youth national teams of his country. In his team debut match in the current edition of the OFC Champions League, Sela managed to be a constant threat for the powerhouse Auckland City upfront and took his chances in two quick goals scored from long-range. Despite not ending up on what would be a famous victory for Rewa, Sela earned himself the ‘Man of the Match’ award of Oceania Football Confederation and now looks ahead for their upcoming clash against Solomon Islands’ champions Solomon Warriors in the midweek. Sela has still a lot to go through in his football career but can already state he is warrior for overcoming a very serious injury at so young age and returning to competitive football with a great statement against the most important football team of the region.
