Hekari United welcomes third Brazilian star to PNG

In an exciting development for Hekari United, the club has announced the signing of their third international player from Brazil. Wagner Rodrigues do Carmo arrived at Jackson’s International Airport in Port Moresby, PNG, this morning (24th Jul).

Wagner, a towering forward at 187cm, joins his compatriots Erick Joe and Lucas Santos for the remainder of the 2024 PNG Premier Soccer League (PSL) season. The 28-year-old brings a wealth of experience, having played in Nepal, Georgia, and Belize. His last club was Verdes in Belize, where he clinched a national championship title.

In addition to strengthening Hekari United’s squad, Wagner will also contribute to the Hekari Football Academy in Port Moresby, set to open next week, as well as other centers where the academy operates.

The Club’s General Manager, Vonnie Eteaki Natto, expressed her enthusiasm for the impact these Brazilian players are expected to have on football development in the country. “Our 3rd international player from Brazil just arrived at Jackson’s International Airport in Port Moresby, PNG this morning,” Natto stated. “Wagner Rodrigues do Carmo will join the two Brazilians (Erick Joe and Lucas Santos) for the remaining of 2024 PSL Season as well as coaching in the Hekari Football Academy here in Port Moresby (which will open next week) and other centers where our Academy is based in.”

Natto also extended gratitude to the club’s sponsors, “MRDC, PRK, and KSS for supporting the Football Academy program and for making it possible for the international players to be part of the program.”

With the addition of Wagner Rodrigues do Carmo, Hekari United is poised to make a significant impact both on and off the field, fostering football talent and elevating the sport in Papua New Guinea.
