Sterward Toata, the 23-year-old forward from the Solomon Islands, has been making strides in Fiji, playing for Nadroga FC. As he and his team gear up for the prestigious Battle of Giants (BOG) tournament this coming weekend, Toata reflects on his journey and the preparations ahead.
Toata, who previously played for Marist FC in the Telekom S-League back in the Solomon Islands, joined Nadroga FC six months ago. He shared his motivation for coming to Fiji and his experience so far. “I came to Fiji because I want to gain more experience in football,” Toata said.
He recounted how his move to Nadroga FC materialized through the help of his former teammate, William Komasi. “They just asked Komasi to look for one player, and he talked to me. When I said OK, Nadroga FC called me to join them.”
Discussing the team’s preparation for the BOG, Toata expressed confidence and enthusiasm. “The preparation for BOG has been all good. We are training from Monday to Friday,” he explained. Despite some setbacks, Toata remains positive about the team’s progress. “They hadn’t qualified for the Fiji FACT for a long time, but we did it last month. It was hard luck for us then, but now we are ready for the BOG.”

With the first match against Ba FC scheduled for this Friday at 1 PM in Suva, Toata emphasized the team’s determination. “We’ve been working hard and training hard for the BOG. We look forward to the competition,” he stated. “If we work extra hard and work together as a team, we can succeed, even though there are good teams in the tournament.”
As Toata and Nadroga FC prepare to face tough competitors, his optimism and dedication signal a promising campaign in the Battle of Giants tournament.
