Fijian football star Thomas Dunn has returned to his home club, Navua FC, to compete in the highly anticipated Battle of Giants tournament. Dunn’s return follows a two-week trial period with A-League side Sydney FC, where he impressed the coaching staff but was ultimately unable to secure a contract due to squad limitations.
Dunn participated in a pre-season friendly against Newcastle Jets, where he came on as a substitute and made a notable impact by assisting a goal. Sydney FC Manager Alex Baumjohann praised Dunn’s performance and mentality during his trial period. “Dunn showed a lot of potential during the period he spent with us, especially considering this is a higher level than he is used to,” Baumjohann stated.
Despite the positive feedback, Sydney FC was unable to sign Dunn due to the A-League rule limiting clubs to a maximum of five foreign players. “The A-League rules only allow clubs to register a maximum of five foreign players so at the moment we are not looking to add another foreign player in his position,” Baumjohann explained. He added that the club will keep Dunn in mind for future opportunities and will continue to monitor his progress.

Thomas Dunn’s football journey began in Togoru, Navua, where he developed a passion for the sport from an early age. His versatility on the field, excelling as both a midfielder and a striker, has been evident throughout his career.
As he rejoins Navua FC, Dunn brings with him valuable experience and a renewed determination to make a significant impact in the Battle of Giants tournament. His return is highly anticipated by fans and teammates alike, who are eager to see him continue to shine on the field for his hometown club.
