The ‘Fijian Goal Machine’: Sairusi Nalaubu speaks about his great moment

Banging on goals for a number of season back in Fiji, the ‘Fijian Goal Machine‘ turned himself into one of the greatest strikers of the South Pacific. Playing for Suva and Lautoka, the Fijian international Sairusi Nalaubu was the top scorer of the past four edition of the Fijian national league. The 26-year-old star striker has a lot to come in his career yet; although he has already much to be proud of. Recently, he helped his Lautoka side to win the prestigious Fiji FACT tournament after a 21-year-drought. In the current season, Nalaubu had scored 14 goals in ten matches played, once again, the leading scorer of the national league – the most anyother player scored so far is four.

The fans are wondering: who can stop Nalaubu? Oceania Football Center asked some of the questions the local fans are interested to hear from the star player.

1. Sairusi, you are doing another superb season for Lautoka, scoring many goals. What’s the key for your success as a striker?

First of all I always put God first in everything I do, because with God everything is possible. My wife and daughter motivates me a lot to do my best and make them proud, they have always been beside me throughout this journey and that’s why I always perform to the best of my ability just to put a smile on their face. Also, my family and my wife’s family have always been so supportive of me and I always try my best to make them all happy too.

2. Lautoka just won the Fiji FACT tournament after a 21-year-drought. What it meant to you help them to retain this glory?

It was one of my biggest achievements again helping Lautoka win Fiji FACT after 21 years. I was so happy and blessed, super proud of the boys for the teamwork and again I’m forever grateful to God for giving us the victory.

3. Rewa and Suva had been dominating Fijian football in the past years. Lautoka is having a great season so far: do you see Lautoka finishing the domination of these two teams in the national league this year?

Yes, I can say that Lautoka has a chance of winning league this year and I also can say that every district will be giving their best for this round two and will also want to win the national league, so basically whichever team prepares well will win.

Sairusi Nalaubu – The Fiji Times

4. Some time ago you went on trials with a Czech Republic team, but you returned home some months later. What happened there that made you return and how was that experience for you?

All I can say is that I was late when I reached Czechia, for their season had already started. So basically what I did was just train with the team and gained experience from there, for everyone’s information there was no trials for me there since their season had already started and usually they always do trials when it’s offseason and I was late upon arrival. I really learned a lot from there and being there also helped me improve some of my football skills.

5. Have you received more offers to leave Fiji and play professional football overseas? Can we expect to see Sairusi Nalaubu playing abroad in the upcoming years?

Yes, I have received many messages from people from overseas, but I will always follow God’s plans for me, if it His will for me to go I will definitely go at his perfect time.

6. What are your expectations about the next South Pacific Games to be played this year. Can Fiji take the gold medal in football men’s event?

Expectations are very high for all teams taking part and I can say that we will also prepare well and we will try our best to win gold for our country.

The numbers prove the capabilities of the star player; not only Lautoka but currently Fijian football relies on the goals of Sairusi. The expectations are high due the continuing superb performances of the striker – but it seems there is no limit for Nalaubu’s goalscoring prowess.
