Ben Waine hattrick stuns Tasman as Eastern Suburbs beat Hawke’s Bay at ISPS Handa Premiership

The weekend of football of ISPS Handa Premiership was filled up of goals in the two matches of the round. The title holders Eastern Suburbs are very close to seal their spot in the semifinals, while the Nelson-based side Tasman United see their post-season dream away after suffering an upset defeat against the Wellington Phoenix Reserves commanded by the talented Ben Waine.

Eastern Suburbs battled to beat the good side of Hawke’s Bay at Riverhills Park to keep their chances to proceed to the semifinals alive in the process. The match started in a good way for the Lilywhites as the newly-signed Stafford Dowling scored the opener for the home team. It did not take long and the strong defender Alec Solomons added another for his team at the 25th minute of play.

The 2-0 advatange seemed good enough to grant a much needed for the home side as they ended the 45 minutes with these two goals ahead. The prolific striker Martin Bueno added another to his tally in the league at the 64th minute, but then the momentum of the match changed in favour of the Napier-based side.

Gavin Hoy scored the first for Hawke’s Bay at the 73th minute and five minutes and unfortunate play of Alec Solomons caused his second goal of the day, but this time in the wrong side of the pitch as he scored an own goal. Suddenly, the three-goal margin was recuded to one and Eastern Suburbs saw the story of the game to change.

But, fortunately for Eastern Suburbs, the Englishman Adam Thurston found another goal to seal his side victory already inside the injury time to secure all points from the clash to the home side.

The youngster Ben Waine was the man of the match in the clash of his Wellington Phoenix Reserves against the good side of Tasman United at Porirua Park.

The good performer Jean-Philippe Saïko scored another goal in the league to open the scoreline in favour of Tasman, but this was the only good highlight of the clash in favour of the visiting side.

Ben Waine started his show at the 30th minute of play to equalize the encounter. The match was leveled at half time in 1-1, but in the final 45 minutes of play Waine added another to his side to confirm a very important win for WeeNix in the process.
