Labasa makes history with back-to-back titles in Fiji

Labasa and Lautoka clashed at ANZ Stadium to decide which team would lift 2020 Inter-District Championship’s trophy. Labasa came from behind to beat their opponents by 2-1 to clinch the title for the second straight year.

In the first minutes of the second half, Labasa’s goalkeeper Akuila Mateisuva fouled Dave Radrigai inside the box. Lautoka’s captain Zibraaz Sahib took the ball and scored from the penalty spot to put the Bluez ahead.

Labasa did not give in and their efforts paid off. Ilisoni Lolaivalu equalized in the 68th minute after a free kick taken by a teammate while Ratu Anare used his head to push the ball into the net to put a smile on Labasa fans’ face. After the final whistle, the score was 2-1 in favour of Labasa that clinched the Inter-District Championship for the sixth time in the history.
