In the final matchday of the Tri-Nations tournament played at Churchill Park in Lautoka, Fiji on the 26th of March 2023, Gagame Feni scored a brace for the Solomon Islands to secure a 2-0 win over Fiji.
Feni, who was the top scorer of the previous season’s Telekom S-League for Kossa FC, opened the scoring for his country with a penalty-kick in the 40th minute of play. He then doubled his tally in the second half with a brilliant strike to confirm the win for Solomon Islands. You can watch the highlights of the match by clicking here.
This victory marked the third consecutive win for the Solomon Islands in the Tri-Nations tournament, making them the undisputed winners of the competition. The team is coached by Spanish coach Felipe Vega-Arango, who has been instrumental in their success.
Feni’s performance in the match was outstanding and he was rightly awarded the man of the match award for his efforts. His goals were a testament to his skills as a striker and showed why he was the top scorer in the Telekom S-League.
The Solomon Islands team can be proud of their performances in the tournament and will take a lot of confidence from their victories into future international matches. The win against Fiji in the final matchday was a perfect way to cap off a successful tournament and they will undoubtedly be looking to build on this success for the upcoming Pacific Games to be played in homesoil still this year.
