Thursday, 6th July 2023 marked a momentous day for Brian Kaltak, the Vanuatu team captain and the country’s first professional player. In a grand ceremony held at the State House in Port Vila, Kaltak was awarded the prestigious National Honor Second Class Medal by the Head of State, Nikinike Vurobaravu. This recognition came as a result of Kaltak’s remarkable achievements and contributions to both domestic and international football.
Brian Kaltak’s recent accomplishments have propelled him to new heights of success and have earned him widespread admiration and respect. In June, he made history by becoming the first Pacific Islander to win an A-League grand final. Leading his team, the Central Coast Mariners, to victory against Melbourne City, Kaltak showcased his exceptional skills and leadership abilities on the field.
Adding to his already impressive list of achievements, Kaltak also captained the Vanuatu senior men’s team to a memorable victory over Mongolia in Bhubaneswar, India. In attendance at the ceremony were several esteemed guests, including Prime Minister Alatoi Ishmael Kalsakau Mwaukoro, Malvatumauri Chairman Chief Willie Plasua Gray, Lord Mayor of Port Vila Steve Kiel, and Australia’s High Commissioner to Vanuatu, Ms. Heidi Bootle. Representatives from the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development and the Vanuatu Football Federation, as well as members of Erakor Village and the management and players of Erakor Golden Star FC, were also present to celebrate this momentous occasion.
As Brian Kaltak accepted the National Honor Second Class Medal, he expressed gratitude to his supporters and the people of Vanuatu.
