Jayroll Patty’s rapid rise continues with first senior goal for Solomon Islands

Jayroll Patty continued his rapid rise in Solomon Islands football by scoring his first senior international goal in the Bonitos’ dramatic 3-3 draw against Fiji at the MSG Prime Minister’s Cup.

The 19-year-old came off the bench at HFC Bank Stadium with Solomon Islands trailing 3-1 and needing something special to recover from a difficult position. Fiji had been reduced to ten players following Tevita Waranaivalu’s red card, but the Bonitos still faced a home side determined to protect a lead.

Patty changed the momentum when he scored in the 82nd minute. His goal reduced the deficit to one and gave Solomon Islands renewed belief during the closing stages. Javin Wae then scored in added time to complete the comeback and secure a valuable point.

The strike was another important moment in a remarkable month for the young footballer. Only days earlier, Patty had captained Solomon Islands at the OFC U-19 Men’s Championship in Samoa. He scored a hat-trick in a 3-1 group-stage victory over New Caledonia before adding two more goals in the 2-0 win over hosts Samoa.

Those performances placed him among the standout players of the tournament and made his promotion to Ben Cahn’s senior national-team group a logical move. Patty has also gained valuable experience through Solomon Kings in the OFC Pro League and now plays domestic football for Green Shield FC in the S-League.

His goal against Fiji was not simply a late contribution in an already dramatic match. It showed that he can deliver in a senior international environment, against experienced opposition and under genuine pressure.

Solomon Islands have no shortage of established attacking talent, with players such as Raphael Lea’i, Atkin Kaua and Rovu Boyers available to Cahn. Patty’s emergence adds another dimension. He represents a generation of young players who are beginning to move directly from youth football into the senior Bonitos setup.

The MSG Cup could become an important tournament in Patty’s development. If he continues to make an impact, his first senior international goal against Fiji may be remembered as the moment a new Bonitos regular truly arrived.
