Fiji international defender Scott Wara will strengthen Rewa FC for the upcoming FMF Inter-District Championship, adding experience to the defending champions as they prepare for another major domestic campaign.
Fiji Football Association chief executive Mohammed Yusuf has confirmed that Wara will be available to represent the Delta Tigers, with his International Transfer Certificate already received ahead of the tournament. The 27-year-old has completed his 2026 Australian campaign with Maitland FC and will now turn his attention to Rewa’s IDC title defence.
Wara arrives after a strong season in Northern New South Wales football. Maitland reached the NPL Northern NSW Grand Final, where their campaign ended with a 2-0 defeat to Weston Bears earlier this month. The Fijian defender was also involved in the club’s Australia Cup run, scoring against Fremantle City in the Round of 32 before Maitland were eliminated 2-1.
His return to Fiji gives Rewa a player with considerable experience both domestically and overseas. Wara developed in the Stoke City academy system in England and later represented clubs including Leek Town, Finn Harps, Stalybridge Celtic, Prescot Cables and Stafford Rangers before joining Bula FC for the inaugural OFC Pro League season.
His time with Bula also produced one of the standout individual moments of the competition. In March, Wara scored a stoppage-time bicycle kick as the Fijian side recovered from two goals down to defeat South Island United, further highlighting the attacking threat he can provide despite primarily operating in defence.
Wara has also remained part of Fiji’s national-team setup. He was selected in Sébastien Auvray’s squad for the 2026 MSG Prime Minister’s Cup, continuing a senior international career that began in 2018. His experience at international level and across several overseas competitions gives Rewa another important option heading into a demanding IDC schedule.
The reinforcement comes at an important moment for the Delta Tigers. Rewa reached the Battle of the Giants final earlier this month but suffered a 2-1 defeat to Ba after spending much of the second half with ten players. Their focus now shifts quickly towards another major tournament and the defence of the IDC title they won in 2025.
Rewa have been placed in Group A alongside Labasa, Suva and Nasinu. The section brings together several of Fiji’s strongest domestic teams, while Nasinu have already shown their competitiveness after pushing Rewa hard during their recent Battle of the Giants semi-final meeting.
According to the official Fiji FA schedule, Rewa will begin their IDC campaign against Nasinu at HFC Bank Stadium on October 6 at 3:30pm. The tournament runs from October 6 to 11 in Suva, with the Delta Tigers looking to retain one of the most prestigious trophies in Fijian football and Wara now set to play a role in that defence.
