The 2026 SIFF Super League produced another remarkable weekend of attacking football, with 27 goals scored across five matches at Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara. Rafa Lea’i stole the spotlight with five goals in Central Coast’s 7-0 demolition of KOSSA, while Malaita Kingz recorded an even bigger victory against Laugu United and leaders Green Shield maintained their position at the top of the standings.
Defending champions Central Coast continued their impressive unbeaten campaign with another dominant performance on Sunday, November 1, overwhelming KOSSA 7-0 to remain firmly in contention for the championship.
Solomon Islands international Rafa Lea’i was the outstanding performer, scoring five times as the defending champions extended their impressive attacking record. The former FK Velež Mostar forward opened the scoring in the 15th minute before adding four more goals during the second half, striking in the 54th, 65th, 73rd and 78th minutes.
Barrie Limoki also enjoyed a productive afternoon, scoring twice in the first half, including a goal in stoppage time before the interval. Together, Lea’i and Limoki accounted for all seven Central Coast goals, completing another emphatic result for a team that has been difficult to stop throughout the campaign.
The victory followed Central Coast’s 5-1 success over Southern United in a rearranged fixture on October 28, meaning the defending champions scored 12 goals across their two most recent matches.
Central Coast have now accumulated 32 points from 12 matches, with ten victories and two draws. Despite sitting three points behind Green Shield, they have played three fewer matches than the current leaders, leaving them in a strong position as the competition enters its decisive stages.
The weekend’s biggest scoreline, however, belonged to Malaita Kingz, who dismantled Laugu United 9-0 on Sunday in another extraordinary attacking display.
Alvin Hou, who has enjoyed a productive period in domestic football following his success with the Solomon Islands futsal national team, opened the scoring in the 18th minute before doubling the advantage in the 34th.
Captain Ben Fox added a third shortly after halftime, while Calvin Ohasio, Alfia Aunga and Adrian Abae each scored twice as the Kingz overwhelmed their opponents. Ohasio completed the scoring in second-half stoppage time, securing the nine-goal victory.
The result reinforced Malaita Kingz’s reputation as one of the most dangerous attacking teams in the competition. The club had previously defeated Honiara City 7-0 in October and has continued to demonstrate its ability to produce emphatic victories.
With 27 points from 14 matches, Malaita Kingz remain third in the standings, continuing to challenge the teams above them while maintaining an advantage over Southern United.
Saturday’s action had provided another important development in the championship race, with Green Shield defeating Southern United 2-1 to preserve their position at the top.
Green Shield established a two-goal advantage during the opening half, with Coleman Makasi breaking the deadlock in the 17th minute before Patterson Riugaemai doubled the lead six minutes later.
Southern United responded through Grayston Lavalu in the 56th minute, reducing the deficit and giving his team an opportunity to recover. However, Green Shield protected their narrow advantage to collect three valuable points.
The victory took Green Shield to 35 points from 15 matches, maintaining a three-point advantage over Central Coast, although the defending champions still have several postponed fixtures to complete.
Elsewhere, Marist FC secured an important 4-2 victory over Honiara City, inspired by a hat-trick from John Menapi.
The experienced forward made an immediate impact, scoring twice within the opening five minutes to give Marist a commanding early advantage.
Jeffery Bule pulled a goal back for Honiara City in the 38th minute, but Menapi completed his hat-trick in the 58th to restore the two-goal cushion. Richard Kere added another in the 67th minute, before Clinton Alasia scored Honiara City’s second six minutes later.
The victory provided Marist with three valuable points as they look to improve their position in the lower half of the standings. For Honiara City, the defeat represented another setback in a difficult campaign, despite their ability to find the net twice against their opponents.
The weekend’s only draw came in the encounter between SOSA FC and Ghupo Wantoks, who shared the points following a 1-1 result.
Ghupo made an excellent start when Kevin Samia opened the scoring after just five minutes, putting his side in front early in the contest.
SOSA recovered before halftime, with Darren Ruka finding the equaliser in the second minute of first-half stoppage time. Neither team managed to break the deadlock after the interval, leaving both sides with a point.
The results leave the championship race particularly interesting. Green Shield continue to lead the standings, but Central Coast remain unbeaten and have games in hand, while Malaita Kingz have strengthened their position among the leading teams.
For the defending champions, Lea’i’s extraordinary five-goal performance provided another reminder of the individual quality available within their squad. Combined with Limoki’s attacking contribution, Central Coast continue to produce the kind of performances that could prove decisive in their pursuit of another national championship.
With several postponed fixtures still to be completed, the coming weeks will determine whether Green Shield can maintain their advantage or whether Central Coast’s unbeaten run will ultimately take them back to the top of Solomon Islands football.
