Auckland City to represent Oceania in FIFA Club World Cup

Auckland City will play FIFA Club World Cup for the tenth time – OFC Media

The 2020 FIFA Club World Cup was confirmed by FIFA. The upcoming edition was originally scheduled to take place next month, but it has been postponed to February 2021 due to the restrictions caused by COVID-19 throughout the globe.

As usual, the champion of each continental confederation secures a place at the FIFA Club World Cup (CWC). However, the 2020 OFC Champions League was cancelled right after the group stage, which forced Oceania Football Confederation to take a decision about their representative in the CWC.

According to OFC, the Article 31 of the OFC Champions League 2020 Regulations establishes a ranking of each team after the group stage, determined in descending order of (a) points, (b) goal difference, and (c) greatest number of goals – and Auckland City finished the group stage on top of this ranking. So, the Navy Blues are going to represent the confederation in the upcoming CWC.

It is going to be Auckland City’s tenth participation in the tournament. No other team has competed in as many editions of the CWC as the Navy Blues. They will face Al-Duhail from Qatar in the opening match of the tournament. You can check more information about the next CWC by clicking here.
