Hamilton Wanderers defeated Hawke’s Bay United by 3-0 at Bluewater Stadium in the opening matchweek of 2020-21 ISPS Handa Men’s Premiership, the most important football league from New Zealand.

One of the best players of the match was Tommy Semmy. The 26-year-old forward from Papua New Guinea delivered two assists and played an important role to help his side to grab their first three points in the season.

Semmy had two big opportunities to open the scoreboard for Wanderers: the first one was in the third minute of the game when he passed by an opponent and his shot found the external part of the net. The second, and no less dangerous, was in the 21st minute when his shot hit the post to scare Hawke’s Bay United players, fans and coaching staff.

The Papua New Guinean forward kept the good performance in the second half. In the 56th minute of the game, he received a pass from Josh Signey and he passed the ball back to Signey who scored Wanderers’ second goal of the day.

Semmy almost scored the third goal of this team in a counter-attack, but his shot passed a few centimeters away from the post. In the final minutes of the game, he delivered his second assist of the day by crossing the ball from the right wing to find Derek Tieku who scored Wanderers’ third and final goal of the contest.
