New Zealand international goalkeeper Jamie Searle has joined English National League club Eastleigh on a short-term deal, giving the All Whites shot-stopper a fresh opportunity in the English game.
The 25-year-old has been registered with squad number 20 at the Silverlake Stadium, where he will join fellow goalkeepers Nick Townsend and Josh Jeffries in the Spitfires’ first-team group. The move comes after Searle spent last season at Eastbourne Borough, making eight appearances in all competitions.
For Searle, the transfer represents another important chapter in a career that has already taken him through several respected English academies and senior environments. The Whakatāne-born goalkeeper moved to England in 2019 to join Aston Villa’s academy before spells at Swansea City, Barnsley and Forest Green Rovers.
His time at Forest Green brought valuable first-team exposure, including EFL Cup, EFL Trophy and League Two appearances. He then moved to Eastbourne Borough in search of regular football, and Eastleigh now offer him a route back into the National League.
Searle also brings international experience to the Spitfires. He was part of New Zealand’s Olympic squad at the Tokyo 2020 Games and made his senior All Whites debut in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against New Caledonia, playing the full 90 minutes.
The short-term nature of the agreement means Searle will have to make an immediate impression, but it is a strong chance for the goalkeeper to establish himself in a demanding National League environment. Eastleigh will benefit from a player with a solid professional background, international pedigree and experience of competing for places in English football.
For New Zealand supporters, the signing is another encouraging development for an All Whites goalkeeper still building his career abroad. A successful period at Eastleigh could give Searle the consistency and visibility needed to push further into the national-team picture.
