The current Vodafone Premier League runners-up that is leading the present season of the national league presented to their fans the squad travelling to Luganville, Vanuatu to represent Lautoka in the OFC Champions League 2020. The team will count with four foreigners for the season, including their latests signings as the defender Arami Manumanubai.

Galaxy FC squad is already flying to Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea to face Hekari United, Eastern Suburbs and Hienghène Sport for the Group A of the OFC Champions League 2020. Before the departure, the current Vanuatu national team coach Etienne Mermer gave an emotional speech to the players.

The assistant coach of the team Moise Poida recently stated in his social media about the words of the Ni-Vanuatu football legend to his team. Mermer talked about togetherness and learn from mistakes to improve by game by game and give an historical spot for Vanuatu in the knock-out stage of the next edition of the OFC Champions League.
The team had two foreign players to add to its squad for OFC Champions League: the first Anderson and the second the defender also from New Zealand Jack Caunter. Caunter that had experience in teams as Waitakere United and Southern United, most recently played for Waitakere City in New Zealand winter leagues; the player is the last signing of Lautoka for the regional competition.

Lautoka will also have the Ni-Vanuatu internationals Jason Thomas and Alex Saniel in their squad. The team will face Malampa Revivors from Vanuatu, Lae City from Papua New Guinea and Henderson Eels from Solomon Islands in the Group B of the tournament held in Luganville, Vanuatu.
The tall central defender Diego Máximo has plenty of experience to help the newcomers Galaxy FC in the OFC Champions League. The Brazilian defender talked to Vanuatu Sport and he said he is ready to help the team coached by Batram Suri and Moise Poida to qualify for the knock-out round of the 2020 OFC Champions League.

Diego said to the local source this will be his fourth appearece in OFC Champions League: “This is going to be my fourth OCL and I am very happy to play my football in Oceania especially in Vanuatu. I played for Amicale of Vanuatu, Rewa FC of Fiji, Erakor Golden Star FC of Vanuatu and now Galaxy FC also of Vanuatu and I want to help Galaxy to qualify to the second round of CL“, said Diego.
The Brazilian is still to play a decisive match of OFC Champions League and he expects 2020 will be the year of his success and of his club. In 2019, the Brazilian partned up with Jason Thomas in the Erakor Golden Star defense; the team needed to draw against Team Wellington in the final matchday in the group stage to proceed to the knock-out round, but suffered three goals in the second half that did not allow the Ni-Vanuatu side of Diego to move ahead.
Galaxy and Diego will take on Hekari United, Hienghène Sport and Eastern Suburbs in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea in the Group A of this edition of OFC Champions League.
Since its creation, football spreads passion wordlwide: the most loved sport in the world is played in all continents, in every countries and the talent can be scouted from any particular place you want to look at. Media, marketing and professionalism can improve the conditions of your country and make it produce better and better players through times.
Internet helps a lot in this process; we can evaluate players and teams from almost all nations in the planet just through a click. The things have gotten easier and who does not adapt to the modern era of football is condemned to be at the bottom of the rankings.
It is not always a country, through its grassroots system, can produce world-class players in all the eleven positions in the pitch. It is a problem for its national team, but not for the local clubs. If the club has a good financial background, they have the right to look around in the football market to find the needed athlete to fill the blank in their rooster.
European football, the continent with the best players in the world has also the strongest financial background: they scout all over the planet to find the players they need – the biggest the scope, the biggest the chance to find what you want.
But, It does not seem to be understandable for some particular members of the Fijian football community. Batoro is a very commom word used by the Fijan users to describe pejoratively foreign players and players from another Fijian district – especially if they were signed by any of your club rivals.
In the present season of the Vodafone Premier League, four from the eight teams in the league have foreign players – and in their history, all of them at least had once a foreign player in their squad. So, why to call others Batoro?

The usage of the word Batoro has a deeper root that must not let any person proud of: xenophobia. It is understanble a certain fan wants to mock, or inferiorize the signing of its rival club, but, at a certain level, you are a mocking the nationality of person that is being contracted to work in your country: do not forget, footballers are workers.
Most recently, Ba was severely criticized for signing foreigners to reinforce their team for OFC Champions League. Fans from all other football associations inferiorized the signings of the club; weeks later, Lautoka announced the signings of another imports for their team, the same was done by Nasinu and Suva.
One commom answer from this type of action is the attempt to defend the ‘local talent’. First point: Vodafone Premier League and OFC Champions League have the foreign quota rules. A certain team can have dozens of foreigners, but they will be forced to play a minimum of local players in their squad. There is no reason to use this argument if your country has the foreign quota rule – it sounds only as an attempt to legitimize the usage of the pejorative word Batoro and its xenophobic roots.
As mentioned above: football is a global market – players from every continents fly to play in clubs based miles and miles away, from total different cultures and languages. Today, it is impossible to have a competitive team at continental stage without the exchange of players.
Biologically, the exchange of cultures is also helpful for the sport: humans are from the same race, but there are different ethnics worldwide. It allowed the existence of humans with different skills; an example is the physicality of the Africans and the speed of the Asians. The South Pacific islanders are genetically blessed with their strenght and good level of speed – one the responsibles for the good development of Rugby in the region, a much more phisical game than football. If you can combine your team with a strong defender and a speedy winger, as an example, from different nationalities, your team has a bigger chance to achieve its goals.
Football turned into a globalised sport decades and decades ago; the places that does not accept the reality of the game currently are condemned to not develop as they could. For the sake of its own football, Fiji needs to let it go this Batoro mentality and learn from the real football – and from democracy, away from preconceptions.
It is time to remember the players as Benjamin Totori and Brian Kaltak who helped Lautoka to reach an OFC Champions League final in 2018 and, most recently, remember the joy Dennis Ifunaoa allowed to the Labasa fans after scoring the winning goal at InterDistrict Championship.
If the Fijian clubs have a good financial background – good enough to pick around Oceania the best players from other countries – they have the right to do so. Exchange will get your own football stronger, since the foreign quota rules are there, your young generation has only to learn from the experience from overseas.
The current PNG National Soccer League title holders Lae City FC are already flying to Luganville, Vanuatu in order to compete at OFC Champions League 2020. The club will face the locals of Malampa Revivors, the Solomon Islanders of Henderson Eels and the Fijian powerhouse Lautoka.

Il ne manquerait plus qu’un représentant de la Nouvelle-Calédonie pour que le groupe soit au complet. Luganville accueillera pour la première fois une compétition continentale, la deuxième ville du Vanuatu a mit les bouchons doubles pour accueillir les matchs du groupe B. (Luganville se prépare pour la O’league). Décidément le hasard fait bien les choses. Durant la O-league 2019 certains de ces quatre clubs se sont rencontré. À Koné en Nouvelle-Calédonie le Malampa Revivors Fc et le Lae City se sont affrontés, la victoire a tournée du côté de l’équipe Papou. Autre lieu et autre groupe à Lautoka aux Fidji, le Lautoka FC avait affronté les Henderson Eels lors de la phase des poules, l’équipe Salomonaise l’avait emporté 6 à 5.

MALAMPA REVIVORS FC 🇻🇺
Dans très peu de temps l’île d’Espirit-Santos au Vanuatu accueillera le groupe B de la ligue des champions de l’OFC, une compétition qui sera très attendu par les supporters du Malampa Revivors Fc. Il faut dire qu’en trois apparitions en O-League, l’équipe de Malampa n’a jamais joué à domicile d’abord en Nouvelle-Zélande en 2017 puis en Nouvelle-Calédonie en 2019. 2020 sera une première pour le club. Un club qui pourra compter sur les encouragements de ses supporters.
Dans l’archipel des Vanuatu le football est le sport roi, la réputation des joueurs ni-Vanuatais n’est plus à faire, ils font le bonheur de nombreux club Océanien qui jouent la O-league, le style de football Ni-Vanuatais s’exporte a merveille en Océanie. Cependant il n’y a pas que les joueurs ni-Vanuatais qui jouissent d’une bonne réputation, le public Vanuatais jouie également d’une bonne renommé et compte parmi les plus flairplays d’Océanie.
Pour sa troisième participations à la ligue des champions de l’OFC le champion de la VFF pourra compter sur des joueurs tel que Jackie Ruben qui a déjà connu la O-League avec le Erakor Golden Star ou encore du défenseur Jesse Kalopong passé lui aussi par l’Erakor Golden Star.
Côté départ, es Bleus et blancs de Luganville enregistre un départ et pas des moindre, il s’agit du départ du remuant attaquant Japonais Kohei Matsumoto en partance pour Hamilton Wanderers, équipe de Nouvelle-Zélande.
Espérant que devant son publique, le champion du Vanuatu 2019 se qualifiera pour les quarts de finale de la ligue des champions de l’OFC, une première pour le club.
LAE CITY 🇵🇬

Lae City est un habitué de la ligue des champions de l’OFC. Le club basé dans la Province de Morobe à réussi à se qualifier deux fois de suite pour les quarts de final de la O-League en 2018 et 2019, une opération compliquée à réaliser lorsque l’on connait les difficultés pour une équipe de jouer à l’extérieur. En 2018 au Vanuatu dans le groupe A, Lae City FC se qualifie avec Nalkutan FC du Vanuatu aux quarts de final de la Ligue des Champions de l’OFC en disposant du Ba FC des Fidji et du Tupapa Maraerenga FC des îles Cook. En 2019, ils réitère l’opération en se qualifiant avec Hienghène Sport de Nouvelle-Calédonie pour les quart de final de la O-league, cette fois-ci au dépend des Tahitiens de l’As Téfana et des Vanuatais de Malampa Revivors Fc. Lors des quarts de finale le club de Papouasie Nouvelle Guinée sera stoppé par les clubs Néo-Zélandais de Team Wellington dans un premier temps en 2018 sur le score de 11-0 au David Farrington Park à Wellington et dans un deuxième temps par le club d’Auckland City sur le score de 4-0 au Kiwitea Street à Auckland au cours de l’année 2019.
En 2020, le groupe dont lequel fait partie Lae City sera très compliqué à pronostiquer! Pronostiquer un vainqueur, ou même son dauphin reste une affaire délicate, toutes les équipes se valent, mais plus important tout le monde peut battre tout le monde.
Pour une troisième qualification des quarts de finale de la ligue des champions de l’OFC, Lae City pourra compter sur des internationaux Papous comme Raymond Gunemba ou Nigel Dabinyaba. L’équipe basée dans la deuxième ville de Papouasie pourra également s’appuyer sur la venue des Sud Américains et plus précisément d’Équatoriens, Abdias Aguirre et Gustine Icaza. (Enfin un duo Équatorien joue ensemble pour Lae). Un duo de joueur technique qui ne manqueront pas d’apporter avec eux un peu de Grinta.
HENDERSON EELS FC 🇸🇧

Henderson Eels FC un parcours que l’on ne voit pas souvent en ligue des champions de l’OFC. Et pourtant, pour leur première participation à la O-league, le club propriété du couple Wakio a réussi a se qualifier pour les quarts de final de la ligue des Champions de l’OFC, en se permettant de battre le finaliste de la O-League 2018, le Lautoka FC des Fidji. Une victoire sur le score de 6-5. Ainsi l’équipe Salomonaise pour sa première participation en ligue des champions d’Océanie a réussi à se hisser en quart de final de la même compétition. L’aventure ligue des champions 2019 s’achèvera en quart de final face au Néo-Zélandais du Team Wellington.
Si l’on devait retenir une chose de cette équipe d’Henderson Eels se serait son aspect offensif. En effets, l’actuel deuxième du championnat Salomonais marque énormément de but, que sa soit a domicile ou à l’extérieur, on peut qualifier cela de pluie de buts, en témoigne le match de Telekom S-League (Championnat Salomonais) jouait le 25 Janvier 2020 contre le Real Kakamora FC et qui s’est soldé par une victoire des Anguilles sur le score sans appel de 19-0 (Henderson Eels 19-0 Real Kakamora match de S-League sous enquête)! Durant la campagne des phases de groupe de la ligue des champions de l’OFC 2019, l’équipe entrainé par Eddie Marahare avait inscrit pas moins de 15 buts!
Pour la ligue des champions de l’OFC les Anguilles d’Henderson pourront compter sur leur jeune talon de 16 ans Raphaël Le’ai. Certes, il est très jeune, mais cela ne l’a pas empêché de remporter le trophée du soulier d’or, prix récompensant le meilleur buteur de la saison écoulée. Les Anguilles pourront également compté sur le jeune joueur de 17 ans Léon Kofana. Un mélange d’anciens et de jeunes joueurs qui pourrait très bien faire du tord à quelques défenses.
Ce qui est sûre c’est qu’il y aura certainement de nombreux buts dans ce groupe. Mais plus encore que les buts, se sera intéressant de suivre l’évolution de jeunes joueurs prometteur et talentueux.
LAUTOKA FC 🇫🇯

La campagne de ligue des champions 2019 du LAUTOKA FC n’a pas était une réussite. En effets, les blues n’ont pas réussi à s’extirpé de la phase de groupe. Un groupe dont ils étaient pourtant les favoris au vu de l’excellent parcours qu’ils avaient entrepris en ligue des champions de l’OFC durant l’année 2018. Et de deux en jouant devant leur publique ils étaient naturellement les favoris du groupe. Lors de la phase de poule, les Fidjiens se classèrent en troisième position du groupe, pas suffisant pour se qualifié pour les quarts de finale de la O-League, la première place reviendra à l’As Centrale Sport de Tahiti et la seconde à l’Henderson Eels FC des îles Salomon.
Le club de la Côte-Ouest de l’île de Viti Lévu à toujours eu un bon feeling pour recruter de bon joueur on peut citer l’un des joueurs les plus connus du Pacifique, le Salomonais Benjamin Totori, ou Brian Kaltak.
Depuis quelques temps maintenant le LAUTOKA FC privilègie la piste Vanuataise, en témoigne les passage de joueurs Ni-Vanu qui sont passé par le club, Brian Kaltak, Bong Kalo pour ne citer que ces derniers et cela est pas prêt de s’arrêter entre le Vanuatu et le LAUTOKA FC en témoigne la signature de l’attaquant Ni-Vanuatais Alex Sagniel qui actuellement fait les beaux jours des « blues » en championnat ou plus récemment la signature du défenseur Jason Thomas internationale Vanuatais. Petite parenthèse Jason Thomas ne jouera pas la O-League avec les « blues » (Jason Thomas signe pour le LAUTOKA FC).
Certains arrivent et d’autres part, ainsi se compose la valse du mercato. Parmi ces départs que compte Lautoka FC nous enregistrons celui et pas des moindres de l’ancien gardien de but Beniamino Mateinaqara et celui des attaquants Samuela Drudru et Benjamin Totori en partance pour le rival, le BA FC!
Pour l’instant du côté du LAUTOKA FC le recrutement commence a porter ses fruits, les blues sont actuellement Leader de la Vodafone Premier League (premier niveau aux Fidji), espérant que cela leur réussira en O-League.

Stade Pater will not host 2020 OFC Champions League group D anymore. According to local sources the group will still be played in Tahiti but the venue was changed.
Tahitian club AS Vénus is the group’s host and with the support of the Tahitian Football Federation (FTF) and the Ministry of Sport they manage to change the venue from Stade Pater (Pirae) to Stade Municipal de Mahina (Mahina) which means that AS Vénus will literally play at home now.

Vénus is grouped with Lupe o le Soaga from Samoa, Auckland City from New Zealand and Ba from Fiji. The matches will be played from 1 to 7 March.
The prizes were awarded, the season is over and the results are set, but we are still to get to know who will end up with one of the most important prizes of the season: the top goalscorer, the player who will received the golden boot award. Raphael Lea’i scored 24 goals in the competition, while the Ni-Vanuatu Tony Kaltack scored 19. The doubt is that if the final match – Henderson Eels 19-0 Real Kakamora – will count or not for the league; a serie of rules infractions happened in this particular match where Lea’i scored no more than eleven times – taking the lead of the golden boot race five goals upfront Kaltack from Solomon Warriors.

SIFF Disciplinary Committee is undergoing an investigation about the match in case. The appeal was made by Solomon Warriors and the outcome of the investigation will decide wheter the youngster Lea’i will receive the award or Tony Kaltack.
The organizational problems of S-League as league and its clubs can not put the amazing effort of Raphael Lea’i in the shadows. The 16-year-old put an amazing effort to score the amount of goals needed to take the lead of the golden boot race in his last match. Tony Kaltack also made a strong season since the starting of it, being one of the outstanding players of the title campaign of Solomon Warriors.
