Honiara City is one of three new franchises in Telekom S-League, the national football league from the Solomon Islands. Currently in the sixth position, the team coached by Jerry Allen was the only team to beat Henderson Eels in the first round of the season.
Despite the good start, they want more – and four rising stars joined the team for the second round: Ali Mekawir, Don Keana, Ian Kalu and Junior David. The first three were playing for Langney Wanderers in England and returned to Solomon Islands recently, while David played in the 2019-20 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League for Hekari United.
The bad news for Honiara City fans is that Mekawir, Keana and Kalu must not debut this weekend as they are still undergoing mandatory quarantine in Honiara after returning from England. Anyway, the arrival of these four talented players add lots of quality to a squad that already counts on good players like Alick Solo, Junior Annie and Moffat Kilifa.
Honiara City are going to face Marist FC on this Saturday at Lawson Tama Stadium in the first matchweek of Telekom S-League’s second round. You can check the current league standings, results and top scorers by clicking here.
