Auckland City beats Suva to qualify for OFC Champions League semifinal stage


Auckland City demonstrated their continued dominance in the region with a convincing 3-1 victory over Suva in the second matchday of Group A in the OFC Champions League. The match took place at the Soccer City Stadium in Luganville, Vanuatu, which served as the host country for the tournament.

The star of the match was undoubtedly Auckland City’s young talent, Liam Gillion, who proved instrumental in securing the win for his team by scoring a brace. Gillion showcased his skills early in the game, finding the back of the net in the 14th minute with a brilliant solo effort to give his side the lead.

However, Suva managed to reduce the deficit through an outstanding goal from Vanuatu international Alex Saniel. Saniel unleashed a powerful long-range shot that found the back of the net, providing a moment of celebration for the Fijian side.

With the final scoreline of 3-1 in favor of Auckland City, the New Zealand club confirmed their place in the semifinals of the tournament. Suva, on the other hand, will now have to battle for the second spot in the group against the Solomon Warriors. They only need a draw in their upcoming match to secure their place in the next round, as they currently hold a superior goal margin over their rivals.
