Vanuatu United have added two more Vanuatu internationals to their squad, officially confirming the signings of experienced midfielder Bong Kalo and left-back Semici Kaltack as the Chiefs continue reshaping their group ahead of the next OFC Pro League season.
Kalo’s arrival had been developing for several weeks. The 29-year-old was among the group of Galaxy FC players spotted training with Vanuatu United earlier in September, but at that stage his status remained unconfirmed. The Chiefs have now announced that he earned his place after impressing during a trial period with the professional club.
It is a significant addition of experience to the Vanuatu United midfield. Kalo has been one of the most recognisable players of his generation in Vanuatu football, representing the national team from youth level and captaining the country at the historic 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Korea Republic. His club career has also taken him beyond Vanuatu, including spells in Switzerland with FC Ascona and in Fiji with Lautoka.
More recently, Kalo returned to the continental stage with Galaxy FC during the 2026 OFC Men’s Champions League. Galaxy produced one of the strongest group-stage campaigns of the tournament, winning all three matches and scoring 14 goals before eventually losing 3-2 to Central Coast FC in the semi-finals.
Semici Kaltack represents a different type of addition. Vanuatu United described the 24-year-old as a left-back and pointed to his performances with the team as the reason for bringing him permanently into the Chiefs squad. He was also part of Vanuatu’s squad for the 2026 MSG Prime Minister’s Cup in Fiji.
Kaltack has been known in Vanuatu football circles since his teenage years. A product of Erakor, he represented Vanuatu at the 2018 OFC U-16 Championship, where he was used in a much more attacking role behind the forwards and was regarded as one of the team’s creative players. His development into a left-sided defensive option gives Vanuatu United another locally developed player capable of adding depth to the squad.
He also extends one of Vanuatu football’s best-known family stories. Semici is the younger brother of former Vanuatu international Jean Kaltack and a cousin of Central Coast Mariners defender Brian Kaltak, adding another member of the wider Kaltack football family to the country’s professional project.
The two announcements further clarify the direction Vanuatu United have taken since the end of their inaugural OFC Pro League campaign. Rather than relying heavily on recruitment from outside the country, the Chiefs have increasingly turned towards established Ni-Vanuatu players who already possess national-team, OFC Champions League and international experience.
Bong Kalo and Semici Kaltack follow a series of recent additions that includes Andrew Malakai, Henry Namatak and Jacques Wanemut, while Vanuatu United have also brought in other players from the Galaxy group as they assemble a substantially different squad for their second professional season.
For Kalo in particular, the move represents the confirmation of a process OFCe had been following since early September. What initially appeared to be a large group of domestic players training and being assessed by Vanuatu United is gradually becoming the core of the Chiefs’ new squad.
And with several of those players already familiar with each other through Galaxy FC and the Vanuatu national team, Vanuatu United’s rebuild is increasingly taking on a distinctly local identity.
