Misiwani Nairube is finally back from injury. The 24-year-old goalkeeper is recovered from a knee injury suffered in Ba’s 2-1 win over Lautoka in July and he is confirmed in the squad for 2020 Inter-District Championship that will be contested next week.
Nairube was replaced by Isikeli Sevanaia, a 17-year-old goalkeeper that proved himself at senior level with good performances as he was named the Best Goalkeeper in 2020 Battle of the Giants. Having Nairube back is very good for Ba’s head coach Ronil Kumar who will count on two good goalkeepers in the squad.

On the other hand, Kumar will not count on Manasa Nawakula and Saula Waqa who are currently suspended after testing positive for marijuana – which is not permitted in football – on August 7.
Ba is the most successful team in Inter-District Championship’s history with 24 titles. The Men in Black‘s opening match will be against Nadi at ANZ Stadium on Tuesday. You can check the tournament’s schedule by clicking here.
One of the most important players from Kossa, youngster Barrie Limoki is going to miss today’s match against Isabel United. The 16-year-old forward got injured last weekend in the 4-1 loss to Henderson Eels and he was not able to attend training sessions this week.
According to Kossa’s physiotherapist George Lui, Limoki’s injury is not too serious but should be taken very importantly and must allow the young forward to recover well. Limoki is one of the top scorers of the season with six goals in seven matches.

Another important player that is not going to play this weekend is veteran James Naka who is suspended which means that Dunstan Quanafia, Harrison Mala and Lore Fonaota must be Kossa’s attacking trio today.
Kossa are currently in the fifth position in Telekom S-League – the national football league from the Solomon Islands – with eleven points in seven matches. You can check the current league standings, results and top scorers by clicking here.
One of the most important football tournaments from Fiji is about to start as 2020 Inter-District Championship – most known as IDC – will kick-off on Tuesday at ANZ Stadium in Suva with eight teams fighting for the title in the Premier Tournament.
Currently living a bad moment in Vodafone Premier League – the top-tier league from Fiji – Labasa have the mission to defend their title while Suva and Rewa are the biggest favourites to win the tournament this year.

Despite having a good campaign in the league, Nadi will have to deal with Avinesh Suwamy‘s absence while Ba’s goalkeeper Misiwani Nairube is finally back from injury. Rewa’s youngster Josaia Sela is still injured so he is not going to play this tournament. The official squads were released this week and you can check them by clicking here.
This weekend will see the 2019–20 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League head into its annual playoffs, where, following two semi-finals and a Grand Final, the winner of the NSL season will be crowned. But who will take the glory? Five-time reigning champions Lae City? Eight-time champions Hekari United? Solid newcomers Vitiaz United? Or plucky underdogs Gulf Komara?
Lae City vs Gulf Komara
With the playoff draw based on league position, regular season Minor Premiers Lae City have been drawn against 4th-placed side Gulf Komara in the 1pm kick-off in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Lae City have to be the favourites for this clash. The side defeated Gulf Komara in both of their regular season matches: a Raymond Gunemba penalty was enough for the five-time champions to overcome Komara in the second matchday way back in December 2019, while Komara were thumped 5-0 in the first week back after the COVID-enforced break in the season’s proceedings.
Furthermore, Lae has seemingly overcome the turmoil that surrounded former manager Peter Gunemba’s departure from the club, but their form hasn’t really shifted in either direction. Lae’s record in the first half of the season (under Gunemba) was W7 D1 L1, with 29 goals scored and 9 conceded. In the second half of the season (under Morris), they W6 D3 L0, with 24 goals scored a 6 conceded. This indicates that the club have tightened up defensively – probably in part due to the arrival of the Komolong brothers, Felix and Alwin – but haven’t been able to score as many goals.

This could be down to the lack of a recognised out-and-out striker after Raymond Gunemba left the club and joined rivals Hekari. That said, Jacob Sabua, who was recently voted the MVP of this season’s National Soccer League by readers, has stepped up with five goals in eight games since the restart, and Stahl Gubag has eleven goals for the season, although nine of them were scored at his former club, Tusbab Stallions.
With a host of players boasting international experience, Lae City look every bit the powerhouse that they have been over the past five years. So can a small club like Gulf Komara really expect to stop them?
One thing that could play in Gulf Komara’s favour is the admirable quality that there is no one star player in the team. Each player works hard for the team, and very rarely takes many plaudits as an individual. This is best highlighted by the club’s top scorers for the season so far: the highest scoring player has five goals (compared to Lae and Hekari’s 11 and Vitiaz’s 12), and this honour is shared by three men: Numa Kila, Ilagi Geno and Jordan Kaven, the latter of whom scored a hat-trick in last week’s 5-0 win which took them into the playoffs. Furthermore, Kenneth Arah has 4 goals, while Pala Paul has 3.

This teamwork has carried them this far, and if they gel as a unit once again in this crunch match against Lae, they could spring a surprise; indeed, two weeks ago, an Ilagi Geno goal was enough to beat Vitiaz United in a shock victory against the title chasers. However, most readers would agree that it would take an incredible performance from Gulf Komara and an off-day from Lae City for this fixture to go against the odds.
Prediction: Lae City 3-1 Gulf Komara
Hekari United vs Vitiaz United
This is the real tasty clash, and it’s on at primetime: 4pm local time in Port Moresby. The second- and third-placed sides from the regular season will battle it out for a place in the Grand Final, and the identity of the winner seems impossible to predict.
Let’s firstly congratulate Vitiaz United on a fantastic debut season. No-one would have predicted at the start of the campaign that Vitiaz would be in contention for the playoffs, let alone fighting for the Minor Premiership until the very last week. It is a shame that the side were unable to hold on to second place in the league, as it would have been hugely interesting to see them take part in the OFC Champions League next year. But the season is far from over.
Vitiaz are currently hugely reliant on two players who were new signings mid-season: Jonathan Allenwas signed from FC Bougainville and is the league’s top scorer, having scored six for his old club and six for his new one. Meanwhile, Mathew David has been a revelation since signing from Lae City, having scored ten goals in a six-match period since the restart – although perhaps worryingly, he doesn’t have any in his last three games.
Mathew David (second from left) has been a revelation since arriving from Lae City. Photo: PNGFA
And herein lies the potential problem: if either Allen or David – or both – have an off day, there are few other players who can hit the back of the net. Their early-season goals came from Russell Nirik, who has since left the club, Eliud Fugre, who is more of a playmaker than a goalscorer, and Joel Tiampo. All three of these men, plus young midfield starlet Yagi Yasasa, only have three goals this season, yet share third-place in the club’s goalscoring standings. Vitiaz failed to score in each of their final three games of the season, something which must be playing heavily on their minds as they go up against the defence of Hekari United.
However, Hekari have problems of their own: we mentioned in our preview of this year’s competition that Hekari have an aging squad, and the recruitment of Nigel Dabinyabaand Raymond Gunemba has done nothing to improve that. Key defenders Koriak Upaiga and Daniel Joe, midfielders Michael Foster and David Muta, and strikers Dabinyaba and Gunemba are all over 30, and while there is some younger talent available in the likes of Junior David, the Kepo brothers, and goalkeeper of the seasonIshmael Pole in goal, the core of the team has lost that yard of pace. Surely this is the last hurrah for this iconic and legendary group of players, before younger men must inevitably come through to replace them?

Hekari must also be slightly worried about their recent form: after losing Brazilian imports Erick Joe and Vinicius Reis during the COVID lockdown, the side lost two matches in the second half of the season, and were unable to match the goalscoring exploits of Lae City despite poaching their two best strikers: Lae City scored 24 goals in the second half of the season, while Hekari could only manage 20.
The two previous meetings between these two sides this season ended in draws. With Vitiaz stuttering over the line in their final few fixtures, this one could be decided by which side has more experience of the big occasions. In that sense, therefore, Hekari’s veterans could prove to be an advantage rather than a drawback, but much will depend on whether Allen and David can find their shooting boots.
Prediction: Hekari United 1-1 Vitiaz United (Hekari to win on penalties)
The current PVFA Premier League season is getting close to its end in Vanuatu as the last but one matchweek is going to be contested this weekend at Port Vila Stadium with a decisive clash between Galaxy FC and Ifira Black Bird.
Both teams are fighting for the regular season title and now they are going to be face to face in a crucuial clash. Current league leaders Ifira Black Bird just need a win to clinch the title while Galaxy FC can reach the top of the table with a win.
Galaxy and Ifira will clash this weekend at Port Vila Stadium
Despite being ahead in the table, Ifira players know that there are no favourites in this clash. On the other hand, Galaxy FC players must be cautious as they lost to Ifira by 1-0 earlier this season. Anyway, local fans must expect a very tough battle between both sides at Port Vila Stadium.
Oceania Football Center wish good luck to all teams. You can check the current PVFA Premier League standings, results and top scorers by clicking here.
The Cook Islands is a self-governing island country with approximately 18,000 inhabitants in the South Pacific Ocean in free association with New Zealand. Despite being so small, it counts on a Football Association and it is one of the smallest nations affiliated to FIFA – the highest governing body of football in the world.
Cook Islands Football Association (CIFA) recently announced that they secured a partnership with a foreign company called KPI Sports that will supply apparel for Cook Islands National Football Team for the next three years.
KPI Sports is a company based in Australia that has been creating custom teamwear, sports uniforms, equipment and accessories for high performing teams and clubs throughout Australia and the Pacific for over 30 years.
Cook Islands Men’s National Team is one of the least active national teams in the world as they last played in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification five years ago. However, they are expected to come to the pitch next year to play 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification. On the other hand, Women’s National Team is more active and coached by Judith Kuipers from Netherlands who is doing a great job to help women’s football deelopment there.
The final matchweek of 2019-20 PNG National Soccer League’s regular season was a very special one for Gulf Komara as they smashed Star Mountain by 5-0 to book a spot in the semi-finals of the major football league from Papua New Guinea.
It is important to remember that Komara was not in the top four before the last final matchweek. However they managed to qualify to the semi-finals as Tusbab Stallions lost to Hekari United. The hero of the day was surely Komara’s forward Jordan Kaven who scored a hat-trick against Star Mountain to help his side to clinch the spot in the semi-finals.

Despite not having a powerful attack, Gulf Komara proved that they are a competitive team that can fight for something bigger in the season. Kaven and his teammates now have to stay focused on their next challenge against Lae City that is going to be contested this Saturday at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby. The Inter-District Championship, also known as the IDC, is one of the oldest football tournaments in Oceania. The first edition of this championship was held in 1938 and since then the IDC has been held annually.
One of the most traditional teams in this tournament is Nadi that reached the final for 24 times. However, the Green Machine have to deal with a big problem this year as they are not going to count on their powerful midfielder Avinesh Suwamy who got injured during a training session two weeks ago.

Despite being a midfielder, Suwamy is one of the top scorers in Vodafone Premier League – the top-tier league from Fiji – this season with six goals. His absence is surely a major blow for the team. Anyway the team coached by Kamal Swamy still relies on powerful forward Rusiate Matarerega who will be in charge of leading the team’s attack in the tournament.
Nadi’s debut in the tournament will be against Ba on October 6. You can check the schedule of Inter-District Championship by clicking here.
The eighth round of 2020 Telekom S-League finished on this Wednesday when Real Kakamora and Malaita Kingz clashed at Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara – the capital of the Solomon Islands. Despite the favouritism, Kakamora had to work the extra mile to come from behind and beat their opponents in a very interesting match.
Clement Muri opened the scoreboard for Kakamora in the tenth minute but Peter Kai and Philip Lamana scored once each to put Kingz ahead by the end of the first half. It seemed that Malaita would finally win their first match in the season until the final minutes of the game…
In the 75th minute, Kakamora’s head coach Peter Konata decided to make some changes in the team: Andrew Ngahu, Lonzy Dalton and Bartholomew Talakoro came from the bench as Benjamin Toata, Darren Houkarawa and Clement Muri left the pitch. Those changes were very important as Talakoro scored twice to put Kakamora ahead and Dalton found the net once to seal the 4-2 win.
