Laugu United and Malaita Kingz clashed at Lawson Tama Stadium in the eleventh matchweek of Telekom S-League – the national football league from the Solomon Islands. Despite the favouritism, the team coached by Paul Kakai did not have an easy day.
Jeffery Bule almost opened the scoreboard in the third minute but his header hit the crossbar after a corner kick from the left wing. Bule had another chance to score with his head 23 minutes later: after another corner kick, he touched the ball with his head. The ball bounced on Kingz’s defender Robin Billy who was trying to save the goal and went into the net.
Laugu put lots of pressure on Kingz as they had many opportunities to extend their lead. In the beginning of the second half, forward Mathias Iani received the ball inside the six-yard box but he could not push it into he net. At the final whistle, the black team beat their opponents by 1-0.
Laugu remain in the second position with 23 points – four points behind current league leaders Henderson Eels.
