The Sunday of football was thrilling throughout Fiji; surprises and important matches for the outcome of the national league made the final run – as just three rounds are missing for the end of the Vodafone Premier League season – even more contested.

Nadi played against Nasinu at ANZ Stadium and they took the lead thanks to a goal of the striker Rusiate Matarerega, but Nasinu managed to find an equaliser through the experienced Nasoni Mereke. But in the final part of the game Matarerega added another to his tally to give the lead back to Nadi – Napolioni Qasevakatini gave final numbers to the scoreline adding the third for the Jetsetters; more three valuable for Nadi as they have 18 in the table now, Nasinu stands just one point the bottom-ranked Navua with eight.

In Ba the Men in Black played against the Ravinesh Kumar coached-side Lautoka, but both teams could not find the net in the this encounter. The closest they get was through the Solomon Islander Darold Kakasi, the attacker had a golden chance from the penalty spot, but it went wasted the goalkeeper Joela Biuvanua saved the kick.

Ba continues ranked third in the league two points away the second place Suva and three points the leaders Rewa; Lautoka is not in a good moment in the season as they keep in their non-winning streak, The Blues are ranked fifth with 13 points.

The Capital City Boys continue their good run as they overcome Navua by 4-1. The team coached by Babs Khan is now just one point away the leaders Rewa as the Delta Tigers could not avoid a defeat against Labasa. At ANZ Stadium, Remueru Tekiate opened the scoreline for the home side in the first half; the party continued as the forward Christopher Wasasala doubled Suva’s lead in the second. Meli Codro also scored in the match, twice, a good performance for the Fijian international – as the match was already 4-0 in favour of the home team, Navua pulled one back through Sharad Kumar, but that was not enough to start a reaction for the Navuans.

Suva gets back to the title race as they cut three points deficit from Rewa at the top of table; Navua will need to recover in the season if they want to avoid relegation – they continue at the bottom of the rankings with only seven points, but Nasinu is just ahead of them in the run with eight.

New Caledonia: AS Mont-Dore living a nightmare in Mobil Super Ligue

🇫🇷 Français

The 2020 Mobil Super Ligue reached its sixth round this weekend and things keep getting worse for AS Mont-Dore, one of the most important teams from New Caledonia as they are in the relegation play-off zone.

Despite having lots of talented players like Cédric Decoire, Jacques Wamytan, Joseph Tchacko and Titouan Richard, AS Mont-Dore are in a very bad situation in the major football league from New Caledonia as they have not won in the league so far in the season. The team coached by Stephane Drahusak are currently in the ninth position – a place that his team is not used to be.

Their last match was a complete disaster as they were deservedly smashed by AS Wetr by 4-0 at Stade Numa Daly on this Saturday. This match exposed the fragility of a team that is used to be one of the strongest teams in the league.

While they struggle to have good results in the league, they have qualified to New Caledonia Cup’s quarter-finals to face Olympique Nouméa next weekend. The good campaign in the local cup can be a turnaround for AS Mont-Dore’s season – and the team’s supporters want to see better results as soon as possible.

Solomon Islands’ forward Ali Mekawir scores as Langney Wanderers advance in English FA Vase

Solomon Islands’ youngster Ali Mekawir is living a bright moment in his career as he is scoring a good amount of goals for Langney Wanderers in England. After making history in English FA Cup, the 20-year-old forward now wrote his name in FA Vase – a national cup for teams that are playing in 9th, 10th or 11th tier of English football.

Langney Wanderers received Eastbourne United at Priory Lane in the First Round of the Cup. Eastbourne United had a powerful start by scoring two goals in fifteen minutes but it was not enough to discourage Wanderers. Ali Mekawir scored Langney’s first goal in the 19th minute and Harry Ducatel found the net two minutes later to equalize (2-2).

Callum Sheriff scored in the final minutes of the first half to put Wanderers ahead while Trey Masikini scored the last goal of the contest to seal the 4-2 win. Wanderers will face Epsom & Ewell FC or Bridon Ropes FC on October 10 in the second round of 2020-21 FA Vase.

Vanuatu: The interesting fight against relegation in PVFA Premier League

With just three matchweeks to go in the 2019-20 PVFA Premier League in Vanuatu, four teams are fighting against relegation this season – Mauwia, Sia-Raga, Tupuji Imere and Yatel – and football fans must expect breathtaking moments in the final weeks of the season.

Despite having some good players like Frank Ruben, Lucien Hinge and Malakai Makito, Yatel lost their last two league matches and they are now in a dangerous position in the table. The team coached by Kiki Hinge will have two important clashes in the upcoming weeks against Sia-Raga and Mauwia and losing these matches is not an option.

Yatel are fighting against relegation in 2019-20 PVFA Premier League – Vanuatu Sports News

Tupuji Imere are living an atypical season and they are currently in the fifth position with eleven points – two points ahead Mauwia, Sia-Raga and Yatel. However, the team coached by David Chilia is in trouble as they are going to face the top three teams in the league (Galaxy, Ifira Black Bird and Tafea) in their final three matches.

With many young players in the squad, Sia-Raga are living a very difficult moment in the season and relegation might be a reality for them as they do not win a league match since the fourth matchweek of the season. The clashes against Mauwia and Yatel are going to be decisive for the yellow team.

After beating Tupuji Imere by 2-0 on this Saturday, Mauwia showed that they are not dead in the league and their chances to stay in PVFA Premier League for the next season are real. They have showed some improvement on defense and it might be a gamechanger for the red side in the final weeks of the season.

It is important to remember that the bottom placed team will be relegated to PVFA First Division – the second tier of football in Port Vila – while the seventh placed team will face Seveners United from First Division in a play-off match to decide which team will be in the next PVFA Premier League. Kossa FC still have a lot to improve in Telekom S-League

Despite beating Real Kakamora by 2-1 on this Saturday, Kossa FC still have a lot to work on if they want to finish the current Telekom S-League season in a good position. The team coached by Fred Osifelo showed some defensive fragility when attacked while forwards missed many clear opportunities to score this weekend.

It is already known that Barrie Limoki and Harrison Mala scored once each against Real Kakamora to put Kossa in the second position in the table with eleven points in six matches. However it could have been a much easier game if they have not lost so many opportunities to score.

Kossa managed to keep the ball possession in the match and they did not find many difficulties to reach the opponent’s box. However the forwards did not manage to score many goals – and it is their fault. While Real Kakamora’s goalkeeper Zantas Kabini made some good saves, James Naka, Barrie Limoki and Harrison Mala missed many chances over the match, including an open goal situation missed by Mala in the first half.

Despite these problems, Kossa still have a powerful team and they can fight for a spot in the next OFC Champions League if they improve on these points.

What is wrong with Vitiaz United in PNG National Soccer League?

Currently in the third position with 36 points in seventeen matches, Vitiaz United are already qualified to 2019-20 PNG National Soccer League semi-finals. However the team coached by Nathan Vincent is not living a good moment in the season and this is worrying.

Despite counting on a powerful offensive system with Eliud Fugre, Jonathan Allen, Mathew David and Yagi Yasasa, Vitiaz United did not find the net in the past two games and it is being a problem for them. The unexpected losses against FC Bougainville and Gulf Komara made Vitiaz fall to the third position in the league.

Having bad streaks is something common in football but Nathan Vincent and his players need to open their eyes as the regular season is going to finish next week – which means that Vitiaz United are going to play a knock-out match in a few weeks so keeping this poor level of performance in the semi-finals is not a good deal for Vitiaz.

Qualifying to the semi-finals is surely a milestone for Vitiaz United but they surely can do more as they did not lose to local powerhouses Hekari United and Lae City this season. Coaching staff and players can not relax and they need to get back on the right track as soon as possible. The upcoming clash against Lae City in the last matchweek of the regular season can be a turnaround for Vitiaz United – for good or for bad.

Rewa face Labasa as Suva and Ba want to get closer to the top in Vodafone Premier League

The 2020 Vodafone Premier League season is heading to its decisive moments as the eleventh matchweek will be contested on this Sunday in Fiji and current league leaders Rewa can be one step closer to the national league’s title depending on this weekend’s results.

After winning two league matches in a row, Rewa will count on the crowd support at Ratu Cakobau Parkk against Labasa. However the team coached by Marika Rodu must expect a tough clash once Labasa need to win in order to stay away from the relegation zone: “We are taking each game as a final because the points difference on the table is not that much so we will not take Labasa according to their current performance but we will see them as a threat to our chances of winning the national league,” revealed Rodu.

Labasa fans are not alone in this game, as Ba and Suva fans are also cheering for a Rewa defeat in this game. However cheering for a Rewa defeat is not enough: Ba and Suva do need to win this weekend. Current league champions Ba have a difficult clash against their rivals Lautoka at Fiji FA Academy and losing is not an option for them. The Men in Black will go all-out to grab all three points to stay alive in the title race.

Ba starting eleven in last week’s match against Navua – Fiji FA Media

Theoretically, Suva have an easier match this weekend as the Capital City Boys are going to face Navua at ANZ Stadium. However the team coached by Babs Khan can not underestimate their last league match against Navua was an 1-1 draw in February: “Navua is an unpredictable side who came in as underdogs and gave big teams some really hard time […] We are not taking them lightly,” stated Khan. It is important to remember that Navua will not count on veteran Seveci Rokotacala who was red carded last week which is a major blow for them. Anyway they need to work the extra mile to steal some points from Suva if they really want to stay in the major division of Fijian football.

After losing to Labasa by 2-0, Nasinu need to get back on track if they want to stay in the Premier League and now the team coached by Tagi Vonolagi has a very difficult challenge against Nadi at ANZ Stadium in Suva. Despite the loss to Rewa last week, Nadi are having a solid season and they are the favourites to win this clash, but they need to keep their eyes open otherwise they can be surprised by Nasinu.

Le’ai shines as Henderson Eels win again in Telekom S-League

The seventh matchweek of 2020 Telekom S-League kicked-off on this Saturday with two matches being contested at Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara – the capital of the Solomon Islands. Henderson Eels and Kossa confirmed their favouritism and won their respective games.

Real Kakamora faced Kossa in the opening game of the day and Chris Hatarau scored an early goal to put Kakamora ahead in the fourth minute. Both teams were performing in a very good level: while Kossa were trying to equalize, Kakamora’s attack was confusing the opponent’s defenders as Adrian Mara, Benjamin Toata and Chris Hatarau were moving a lot to create chances.

Kossa had more possession in the game and the team coached by Fred Osifelo equalized in the beginning of the second half with a penalty kick scored by youngster Barrie Limoki. A few minutes later Limoki almost scored another goal but his shot hit the post. After losing a big chance in the first half, Harrison Mala found the net in the 83rd minute to give three points to Kossa.

Henderson Eels came to the pitch a few minutes later to face Marist FC. Despite all efforts, Marist were not able to stop Eels’ attack as Raphael Le’ai and Augustine Waita scored once each. At the final whistle, Eels defeated their opponents by 2-0 to remain on top of the table with eighteen points in seven matches. The bad news for Eels is that Rodney Suri was red carded in the second half and he is going to miss next week’s match against Malaita Kingz.

Le’ai is living a marvelous moment as the 17-year-old forward is the top scorer of the league with eleven goals in seven matches and it would not be a surprise if he wins Telekom S-League’s Golden Boot race for the second staright season.

Two more matches will be contested this Sunday while the final clash of the week is going to take place on Wednesday. You can check Telekom S-League current standings, results and top scorers by clicking here.
